Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
